About Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust
Founded in 2014, YGAM has a social purpose to inform, educate and safeguard young and vulnerable people against gambling and gaming harm. They have an award-winning team that develops and delivers evidence-led training and resources to those who have influence over young people. This includes teachers, youth workers, parents, carers, universities, health professionals, faith, and community leaders. Their free workshops equip delegates with the knowledge, understanding, and confidence to then deliver sessions on the topic to young people. They’re utilising education to safeguard future generations.
Their Challenges
During successive lockdowns, young people spent more time online which saw a significant increase in the amount of time spent gaming. This has subsequently resulted in more awareness of the potential harms and an increase in demand for our resources. They’re keen to share our preventative education with as many people as possible so we can all identify the signs of harm and also the support that is available.
Their Achievements / Goals
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, they have continued to increase our growth and impact. Over the years, their fantastic team has scooped numerous national awards including the PSHE Education Award at the Children & Young People Now Awards. They again surpassed their annual targets to train thousands of teachers and youth workers as part of the ‘Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme’.
Since the programme was launched in 2020, the professionals trained by YGAM have pledged to reach over an estimated one million young people.
