How to stay secure whilst working remotely

2 minutes

As working remotely has become more prevalent than ever for most organisations, it has become even more essential to have the best security for your setups as there have been many incidents of malicious cyber criminals exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic!

Here are some ways to help you make sure your companies data is secure and protected;

Protect your data

  • Cyber criminals and scammers can easily create fake email addresses which look legitimate, they can also use fake caller ID information and even hack into organisations social media and send out messages which seem legitimate.
  • It is very important not to leak any of your company’s data, sensitive information, or intellectual property. For instance, be very careful of what you’re sharing online and with whom you are sharing it with as it is easy to accidentally reveal information.

Avoid pop-ups and unknown emails

  • Beware of phishing, phishers can trick people into clicking on a link which will lead them to a security breach or malicious malware.
  • Phishers hope that employees will open pop-up windows or other malicious links that could have viruses and malware embedded in them, leading to them to infiltrate into your organisation’s network. So, be cautious of links and attachments in emails from senders you do not recognise.

Use strong password & two factor authentication (2FA)

  • Strong, complex passwords can help stop cyberthieves from accessing company information, any simple passwords can make access easy and could give cybercriminals access to your company’s network.
  • A strong password contains at least 10 characters and includes numbers, symbols, and capital and lowercase letters. Companies also should ask you to change your passwords on a regular basis.
  • Using different passwords for personal and business is definitely important, this makes sure that there will not be any cross compromise.
  • A password manager can help with keeping on top of your passwords and storing them in a safe, unbreachable place.

Connect to secure Wi-Fi

  • Only use Wi-FI networks you trust such as your Office or Home Wi-Fi. Public Wi-Fi networks can be risky and make your data vulnerable to being intercepted.
