Cancer52 is an alliance of over 100 organisations working to improve outcomes for people with rare and less common cancers. The group advocates for better awareness, policy change and research funding, while supporting collaboration across the cancer care sector. Their work relies heavily on effective communication and document sharing among member organisations and stakeholders.
Cancer52 approached us with the need to build a new SharePoint environment tailored to their operational requirements. Their existing setup relied heavily on OneDrive, which was becoming increasingly difficult to manage across multiple users and projects. The organisation required a more structured and collaborative platform that could support secure document sharing, version control and streamlined access for both internal staff and external partners. To ensure the new system met their needs, we worked closely with the client to understand their workflows, data structure and collaboration goals. The challenge was to design a SharePoint solution that would be intuitive, scalable and aligned with best practice.
Our first step was to engage with Cancer52’s team to gather detailed requirements for the new SharePoint environment. Through collaborative workshops and consultations, we mapped out their existing data usage and identified key areas for improvement.
We then designed a modern SharePoint Communications Site, structured to support their project-based work and stakeholder engagement. The site included multiple document libraries, each tailored to specific functions such as policy development, member communications and event planning. This structure allowed for easier navigation, improved data categorisation and more efficient collaboration.
Following the design phase, we migrated all relevant data from OneDrive to SharePoint. This process was carefully managed to ensure data integrity and minimal disruption. We implemented custom views and metadata tagging to enhance searchability and user experience. Permissions were configured to ensure secure access for both internal users and external collaborators.
Training sessions were provided to staff to ensure a smooth transition and to empower users to make the most of the new platform. Ongoing support was also made available to address any queries and optimise usage.
The migration from OneDrive to SharePoint has transformed Cancer52’s digital workspace. Staff now benefit from a centralised, well-organised platform that supports collaboration and secure document sharing. The new structure has improved productivity by reducing time spent searching for files and managing access permissions.
The Communications Site provides a clear hub for updates, resources and project documentation, enhancing transparency and engagement across the organisation. External partners can now access relevant materials securely, without compromising internal data. The use of metadata and custom views has made navigation intuitive and efficient.
Overall, the project has delivered a scalable and user-friendly solution that supports Cancer52’s mission and operational needs.
