About ReachOut

ReachOut is a strategic partner for schools. They run after-school programmes where they build the socio-emotional skills that transform outcomes for 9-14 year olds. They define these skills as empathy, responsibility, problem solving, initiative, teamwork and emotion management.

They exist because not all children have the opportunity to just ‘pick up’ socio-emotional skills. The 9-14 age bracket is an especially crucial juncture in childhood development, so they focus their efforts on helping children in this range.

Within this bracket, they further focus their efforts on helping young people constrained by circumstance. Their programme delivery is informed by an evidence-based curriculum and delivered through collective mentoring with trained practitioners and volunteer mentors. This combines positive peer support with supportive adult role models, allowing them to have the most impact.

ReachOut's Challenges

Like many charities, they are being impacted by the sector-wide environmental challenges affecting the fundraising landscape. 2023-24 was a particularly challenging year, following a number of high value long-term Trust funders closing their doors. They recognise that they are sadly not an anomaly in this; the National Council for Voluntary Organisations has observed that many funders are closing to new applications or winding down entirely, while others are seeing application numbers surge by up to 50%.

At the same time, the cost of living crisis makes it harder for individuals to make donations to charities like ReachOut, putting their organisation under increasing financial strain. During these tough times, every donation makes a huge difference, and they’re so grateful for their incredible supporters who make their work possible.

ReachOut's Achievements

“ReachOut didn’t just change my life – it gave me the tools to build a future I didn’t think was possible. They listened when no one else would. They invested in my potential when others turned away.” – Glorious, ReachOut Alumni.

ReachOut has been delivering youth development and mentoring projects for children and young people since 2003. Every year they recruit, train, and manage hundreds of mentors, develop partnerships with schools, and deliver projects which transform outcomes for mentees. Last year, we delivered 47 projects across London and Manchester, reaching 590 mentees.

Their Impact for Mentees in 2024/25:

· 93% of mentees improved one or more socio-emotional skill (responsibility, empathy, problem solving, teamwork, initiative, emotion management).

· 83% of mentees showed an improvement in their confidence.

· 94% of mentees showed an improvement in their wellbeing.

· 88% of mentees demonstrated improved engagement at school, including their attitude to learning, behaviour, participation in class, punctuality, and attendance.

“Outstanding in every aspect. The programme is thoughtfully designed, and the delivery is consistently high quality. The leaders and mentors are exceptionally dedicated, approachable, and skilled.” Teacher from a ReachOut partner school, 2025.
