About Adferiad
Adferiad are a well-established organisation, providing services to people affected by mental ill health, drug or alcohol use, gambling harms, and other challenging circumstances. Their service users are often those overlooked and unheard, and they support people through a range of recovery-focussed services, campaigns, and the dedicated support of skilled staff and volunteers.
They have over 50 years experience in delivering these services, and their expert staff and volunteers apply a whole person approach to help people in all areas of their lives so they can live with dignity and as independently as possible. The positive difference Adferiad help them make has a profound effect on their lives, and those of their carers, families and the community.
Their support includes a range of local and national services for our clients, carers and families. They operate services in all 22 counties of Wales and in Lancashire. Adferiad has team bases in every county in Wales, two hospital sites (including one in Lancashire), a rehabilitation unit, multiple residential properties, and modern offices.
They are an open-access service: no referral is required, and the group activities are available to everyone. They do not restrict who can seek support from us. For Adferiad, it’s about the person as a whole, not identifying a “hole” in the person.
Adferiad's Challenges
They have one urgent project for which they are fundraising extensively, and that is the capital redevelopment of two vacant properties in Powys into high quality, affordable homes for an identified group of homeless or one-the-verge of homeless veterans. They have been offered a grant for almost half of the anticipated cost of the project and are campaigning strongly to match-fund the balance by June 2026.
Adferiad's Achievements
In the past year, Adferiad supported more than 35,000 people through 397,698 client engagements. Each one of these engagements enabled a person’s voice to be heard, offering crucial support with quality and compassion. Their staff underwent 9845 hours of training through their specialised team on over 150 relative topics. Their service users tell us how much their support means to them, and frequently become supporters themselves, of others on their recovery journey. One service user told Adferiad her story “ By luck, I found Adferiad. From start to finish, I have always been involved with Adferiad, through the treatment, they provided me with counselling. They’ve given me aftercare, they’ve helped me find somewhere to live, they’ve helped me through a tribunal, just any help I needed, they gave me. They gave me this feeling of self-worth.”
If they multiply the positive impact of this one client by 35,000, that tells a powerful story of hope, recovery, and the powerful impact of the services they have been providing to the community of Wales.
